Tragedy strikes couple crossing River Indus on wooden plank

They were seeking free will marriage, but with the girl drowned, the man now faces murder charges

A young love-struck couple drowned in the River Indus in Ali Pur tehsil of Punjab’s Muzffargarh district. The boy was rescued from the water while the teenage girl could not be saved.

The girl, 18, and young man, 20, had allegedly wanted to get married and were making their way away from home.

They tried to cross the river on a wooden plank which gave away mid-journey. The boy managed to swim to safety and was rescued, however, the girl drowned to death.

The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday.

The girl’s family has filed a case for abduction and murder against the man.

They have also accused him of stealing Rs15,500 and some jewelry. The family has alleged she was visiting her uncle’s house when she was abducted.

The young man has now been taken into custody and is being investigated.
