Profile: Who was Alamgir Tareen?
Many Pakistanis heard Alamgir Tareen’s name for the first time on the day of his death. When he was mentioned, he was introduced as Jahangir Tareen’s brother, the latter already active in the news through his new political party.
However, Alamgir Tareen lived a life of success as a businessman and an enthusiastice supporter of sports in the country.
Alamgir was 63 years old at the ime of his death and lived alone in an apartment in Lahore.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Berkeley. He went on to get a master’s degree from the prestigious Yale University.
As a businessman he owned Shamim and Company (Pvt limited). The company was incharge of franchising and distributing Pepsi products in South Punjab. He also ran the largest water purification plant in the country.
He was also the owner and managing director of Multan Sultans, the extension francise in the Pakistan Super league that took the total number of teams to six.
Alamgir was also a proponent of the link between sports and development in the society. He also wanted to build platforms that could help discover players and elevate their skills.
