Army major martyred in Khyber operation

ISPR says 3 terrorists and facilitators were apprehended

An intelligence-based operation in Khyber on Thursday led to the arrests of three terrorists while a major was martyred in the exchange of fire.

A statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations said that the army conducted an operation in Khyber district’s Shakhas area after presence of terrorists was reported.

“While establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes of terrorists was underway, a party of terrorists was spotted by Major Abdullah who was leading the operation from the front,” the statement said.

In the exchange of fire that ensued, Major Mian Abdullah Shah embraced martyrdom. He was 33 years old and belonged to Kohat.

The ISPR added that three terrorists and their facilitators were taken into custody and a operation was initiated to clear the area.

“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement said.

Funeral prayers of Major Abdullah, Naib Subedar Sahib Khan, Naik Muhammad Ibrahim and Sepoy Jehangir Khan were offered at their native respective towns ie : Kohat, Mianwali, Dera Ismail Khan and Mardan on Thursday, the ISPR said.

Martyrs were laid to rest with full military honours.

Naib Subedar Khan, Naik Ibrahim and Sepoy Jehangir were martyred in a suicide attack near Miran Shah while Major Abdullah was martyred during an operation in Khyber district’s Shahkas area.

Serving and retired officers/soldiers, relatives and a large number of people from different segments of society attended the funerals, the military’s media wing added.

“Armed Forces of Pakistan stand resolute to eliminate the menace of terrorism at all costs,” it said, “these sacrifices reaffirm our resolve and strengthen our faith in the fight against terrorism to provide a peaceful Pakistan to our future generations.”
