A Canada-bound Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight returned back to Pakistan after a technical problem was detected midjouney on Monday.

Flight PK-797 was flying over Russia when the issue was detected in the hydraulic system and returned to the country, making a technical landing at Lahore Airport.

Sources said that the flight left Lahore for Toronto, Canada, on the night between Sunday and Monday.

According to the sources, the plane was called back from Russian airspace and landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport due to a malfunction in the hydraulic system.

Flight tracking data shows, Boeing 777-240(LR) aircraft left Lahore at 430am on Monday but landed back at the same airport at 1:30pm after nearly 9 hours in the air.

On the outbound journey, it traveled over Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, avoiding Afghanistan. But after the detection of the problem, it took a rather straight path to Pakistan, flying over Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

PIA officials told reporters that passengers will be sent to Toronto on another flight due to the delay in the repair of PK 797.
