Trailblazing Pakistani mountaineers Naila Kiani and Samina Baig added another major milestone to their resumes on Sunday as they became the first women from Pakistan to scale Nanga Parbat.

The Nanga Parbat is 26,660 feet or 8,126 metres high and is known as the ‘killer mountain’ because of how difficult, dangerous and uncertain the climb is.

Karrar Haidri, who is the secretary of the Alpine Club, made the announcement through a Facebook post on Sunday.

“Today on July 2, 2023, at 10:18 a.m,Naila Kiani scaled the majestic Nanga Parbat, standing tall at an inspirational height of 8,125 metres. She did this to become the first woman to climb Nanga Parbat,” he wrote. Samina made the climb just an hour later at 11:08 am.

“Numerous mountaineers and adventure fans all over the world are inspired by Naila Kiani’s unwavering resolve, unmatched abilities, and unwavering attitude,” Haidri said.

“She serves as a bright example of how people can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.”

Already included in Naila’s impressive list of achievements are scaling of seven of the eight highest mountains in the world including the Mount Everest, K2, Lhotse, Annapurna, G1 and G2.

However, Naila was the second Pakistani women to scale the Everest and K2 as Samina Baig beat her to both peaks.

The Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest mountain in the world. Naila and Samina were not the only ones who climbed the mountain on Sunday. A 10-member team of Imagine Nepal and 28 other mountaineers also made the ascent on the same day, making it the busiest day ever for the peak.
