Organisers says Karachi’s new cattle market generated Rs8 billion business

Karachi: The arrival of Eid-ul-Adha, a significant religious festival, has brought joy to both the business community and the residents of Karachi. The bustling cattle market at Northern Bypass has emerged as a crucial economic support for the country, and has generated a business worth more than Rs8 billion, the organizers said on Wednesday.

With a wide variety of livestock available, every individual found their preferred sacrificial animal at the cattle market, which was left empty as the sales reached record-breaking levels, the organizers said in a release.

The market presented a deserted look on the final day, reported Qazi Asif of Aaj News.

The newly established market witnessed a remarkable turnover in the sale of animals.

The organizers said approximately 700,000 sacrificial animals were brought to the cattle market, with sales exceeding 610,000 animals. The market witnessed an impressive surge in transactions, with citizens purchasing animals ranging from a value of Rs10 million rupees to more than 50,000 rupees, they said.

A bull named Sultan, the heaviest on the market, fetched Rs12 million in price.

In addition to providing livestock, the cattle market also offered employment opportunities to a diverse range of individuals, including traders, caretakers, fodder providers, tanners, and transportation workers.

The occasion served as a source of livelihood for numerous individuals, such as butchers, hide collectors, and wholesalers engaged in the sale and export of hides and meat.

The organizers also addressed the criticism against the cattle market which was set up at a rather remote location this year.

Rumors were spread on social media to create panic, the said adding that over 10,000 electronic and print media outlets, social media influencers, TV anchors, web reporters, bloggers, and YouTubers positively highlighted the vibrant aspects of the cattle market.

The market spokesperson expressed gratitude to the media for their unbiased coverage.

The vendors, residents, and media workers, who contributed significantly to the success of the cattle market, were sincerely acknowledged by the market spokesperson, Yawar Raza Chawla.

He emphasized that the bond between the business community from all over the country and the people of Karachi would continue to thrive.
