Pre-monsoon rains will begin in the upper and central parts of the country from june 25, leading to a much needed respite from the heat, the meterological department said in a statement.

“Moist currents are penetrating in upper and central parts of the country from Arabian sea and a westerly wave is likely to enter in upper parts of the country on 25th June,” the PMD said.

PMD said that, while heavier rainfall in some regions can cause urban flooding, the met department said that the spell of rains was likely to cause a decrease in ‘heat wave’ conditions.

Rains will arrive in the follwing areas from night of June 24 and June 30:

• Attock
• Chakwal
• Jhelum
• Kashmir
• Gilgit Baltistan
• Chitral
• Swat
• Mansehra
• Kohistan
• Abbottabad
• Haripur Peshawar
• Mardan
• Swabi
• Nowshera
• Kurram
• Bannu
• Lakki Marwat
• Kohat
• Mianwali
• Sargodha
• Hafizabad
• Sialkot
• Narowal
• Lahore
• Gujranwala
• Gujrat
• Sheikhupura
• Faisalabad
• Jhang
• Toba Tek Singh

The Met office said that areas in southern Punjab, such as Bahawalnagar, Multan and Layyah, areas in Balochistan including Baran, Kalat, Loralai, Khuzdar and Ziarat and areas in Sindh including Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana will get rains from June 27 to June 28.

Flash flooding can occur in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Lahore while Murree and galiyat could face landsliding.
