PCB throws ball in govt’s court over playing World Cup in India
The International Cricket Council Chairman Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Geoff Allardice are in Lahore seeking Pakistan’s nod for participation in the upcoming World Cup, which will be played in India. However, PCB management committee chairman Najam Sethi has played it smartly and pushed the ball into the government’s court over the issue.
The policy adopted by the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman is somewhat similar to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which they applied in the case of the Asia Cup.
The 50-over tournaments would be played in Pakistan and India in September and October respectively.
So far the BCCI is firm on playing the Asia Cup on a neutral venue and wants Pakistan to participate in the World Cup hosted by them.
With World Cup, being an ICC event, the representatives of the global body are on a two-day visit to Lahore, where the PCB’s headquarter is situated.
They had held a meeting with the top PCB officials including Sethi in that regard.
It has been learned that the board has made it clear that it would follow the directives of the Pakistan government regarding the World Cup if the India team does not visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup.
It is worth mentioning here that the decision on the host of the Asia Cup is expected in the coming days.
Moreover, the revenue sharing model also came into the discussion.
