When protests broke out across Pakistan after Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, social media was filled with images o fprotestors clashing with the police as electronic media mostly blacked out the events.

However, not all of the images you might have seen were authentic, a report by DW has revealed.

The first was an image of a lone woman confronting dozens of policemen which was widely shared.

The image became viral just as a video of a PTI worker, Tayyaba Raja, confronting policement went viral.

Turns out the two are connected. The image was generated by a Twitter user who tweets @kursed and is based on the video.

Another video showed protestors clashing and breaking through a police line at was claimed by the user to be Kashmir Highway.

“Exclusive Footage from Kashmir Highway, Islamabad,” the tweet said, saying the crowd was from KP.

However, let alone Kashmir Highway, the video is not even from Pakistan. It is actually a group of Honduran migrants and the video is from January 2021. You can read more about it in this Daily Mail article.

Finally, a third post showed a crowd carrying a funeral coffin allegedly belonging to a person killed by law enforcement in the protests against Imran’s arrest.

“Khan’s release is the sacrifices of these martyrs, they can never be forgotten,” the tweet read. (The tweet mentioned by DW was by a handle named @FawadKhanDir and seems to have been deleted.)

Once again, the video has nothing to do with the PTI protests and but is from Pakistan.

The video is from Parachinar, where six people including four teachers were killed by gunfire. You can read more about it here.
