The Islamabad High Court has ordered the release of PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi after annulling the orders for his detention. The federal capital police had arrested him under the MPO.

He was arrested under Section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) last week.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the petition against the detention of the senior PTI leader. He asked the State Council whether there was any case against the former federal minister.

“I have to find out if there is a case,” the state council replied to the court.

Qureshi’s lawyer argued in the court that his client gave a video statement that no one should vandalise and he has served as the foreign minister.

He argued that Maleeka Bukhari was also released by the court, but she was arrested again.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that he will not go out of the box.

The court then ordered the concerned authorities to release Shah Mehmood Qureshi immediately, cancelling the actions taken under section 3 of MPO.

Shehyar Afridi’s wife released

IHC’s Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the petition against the arrest of Shehryar Afridi’s wife.

The court asked IG Islamabad what is happening in your jurisdiction, whether you are aware of the law or not.

The IG argued that the accused were involved in planning the GHQ attack.

The court asked on which source of information they have been arrested. “Those who damage state property should not be compromised, the assets that have been burnt are the assets of Pakistan, our assets, but women should not be caught like this.”

The lawyer of Shehryar Afridi’s wife told the court that they have already submitted an affidavit, and asked the court to release his clients.

The court remarked that they are letting the IG go, if someone is arrested after the court order then there will be a lot of problems. He warned of severe consequences.

After the arguments, the court ordered the release of Shehryar Afridi’s wife.
