Imran says his house ‘surrounded by police’, demands talks

Says his party is being pitted against the army

Imran Khan said that his house was surrounded by police as he began an address on Wednesday.

“Probably my last tweet before my next arrest. Police has surrounded my house,” he tweeted. The speech was broadcast only on Youtube.

“If sense does not prevail, we might get to a point where we will not be able to pick up the pieces,” he said in the address.

Imran Khan added that the government was pitting his party, which he said was the country’s biggest, against the army for political objectives.

“They’re telling him (the army chief) that I will remove him if I come to power,” Imran said.

He added that his criticism of the army was like ‘a father criticising his children’. he also added that there was only one institution left in the country that was free of interference and he does not want it to be ‘destroyed’.

Imran also added that he had defended the army unlike Zardari, who was involved in the memogate scandal, and Nawaz, who had allied himself with ‘Indian and Israeli’ lobbies.

He also said that the trials for people involved in the May 9 incidents amounted to the government becoming judge, jury and executioner. He also added that the IG Punjab should be questioned how people were allowed to proceed to the Corp Commander House unchecked.

“Everywhere our people saw faces in the protest that did not belong to the party,” he said.

Imran also added that while the attacks on buildings were being talked about by the government, the fact that there was a crackdown against PTI was beingbrushed under the carpet.

“25 workers have been killed, 700 were injured,” he said, “7,500 people are in jails, including women.”

Imran Khan also said that the ‘excuse’ of terrorists being present in Zaman Park was now being used to launch an operation against him.

“If there are terrorists here, the police should come because I have threats from terrorists,” he said. “But come with a search warrant, like a civilised society.”

He also showed survey results showing PTI’s popularity and said that the only objective of the current political crisis was to delay elections.

The speech’s livestream ended abruptly on Youtube, just as Imran Khan was speaking about the need for elections to take place.

Situation outside Zaman park

The police have surrounded Zaman Park as of 7pm, but were not advancing from their positions.

Heavy contingents of the police have taken up positions 500m away from both ends of the area at Dharampura and Upper Mall.

However, Imran Khan tweeted a video showing policemen in riot gear advancing along the road outside his residence.
