The US Embassy has issued a security alert ahead of the PDM’s sit-in in Islamabad Monday.

In the alert, it said that due to the potential for road closures and/or traffic delays, the US Embassy in Islamabad has canceled all routine consular appointments for May 15.

However, the embassy will remain open and available for emergency services.

They also restricted the movements of embassy personnel to official and mission-essential travel only. But US Consulates General Karachi and Lahore are open for routine consular appointments.

“U.S. citizens are reminded of potential disruptions to cell phone service and should have contingency communication plans in place if traveling in-country. U.S. citizens are urged to pay attention to local media for security updates and planned road closures and maintain good situational awareness and security wherever they travel in Pakistan,” read the alert.

“The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings, unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant of their surroundings and to comply with all established security checkpoints.”

Pakistan Democratic Movement chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has planned to lead a sit-in outside the Supreme Court against the court’s “special treatment” of Imran Khan.

“A sit-in will begin in front of the Supreme Court from Monday,” Fazlur Rehman told the media on Friday, after a meeting of PDM parties on Friday in Islamabad.

“We will tell the Supreme Court that it is the mother of the law, not mother-in-law,” Fazal said, adding that the SC was issuing orders beyond the scope of law and Constitution.
