Director General Inter-Services Public Relations has clarified that there is no chance of martial law being imposed in the country.

Speaking to Geo News on Friday, minutes after Imran Khan left Islamabad High Court, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the army was united under Army Chief General Asim Munir.

“The army and the army chief believe in democracy,” he said.

Sharif refuted rumours that senior ranking officers from the army had refused to obey orders and resigned over the last few days.

“The army is united despite propaganda by extremists and enemies both inside and outside the country,” Sharif said.

Rumours about shuffling in the army’s ranks had been had sprung after GHQ and other military installations were attacked during PTI protests over Imran Khan’s arrest. Rumours had also circulated that officers had disobeyed orders in putting down protests as they spiralled out of the country.

The statement also comes a few hours after Imran Khan told reporters in the Islamabad High Court that only one person, presumably the Army Chief, is behind ‘all incidents’.

Imran had also added that the army chief fears that he will be de-notified if the PTI chief comes back to power.

PM condemns Imran’s criticism of amry chief

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemened Imran Khan’s comments against Army Chief General Asim Munir and said that the ‘whole nation’ stood behind the army.

Shehbaz added that Imran is ‘afraid’ of the chief who is both a Hafiz-e-Quran and a recepient of the sword of honour.

He said that making such ‘disgusting’ remarks against the chief of an army fighting terrorists was a form of support for terrorism. He also said that the statement was an ‘admission of guilt’ by Imran, confirming that he was the mastermind of the protests on May 9.
