A truck carrying Indian army personnel caught fire in Poonch, in Indian Occupied Kashmir on Thursday, killing four soldiers, Indian news outlets reported.

The incident occurred in Bhata Dhurian, about 90km away from Poonch Town.

While authorities have not made a statement about the attack yet, ZeeNews said that the fire had been caused by a lightning strike.

Kashmir is one of the most militarised regions in the world, with India maintaining a heavy presence to control a region that it has contested with Pakistan since 1947.

An attack on a military convoy in 2019 had led to India accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorism. The accusations had led to a escalation in hostilites between the two nuclear armed countries that ended with airforce strikes by both countries.
