A prisoner named Zawar Ali was shot dead in Islamabad district court on Wednesday. The shooting took place near the lawyers’ chamber when the victim and shooter were being brought back from a court appearance at a hearing for a murder case.

Police officials said that the victim and the shooter were relatives and the murder occusred due to a personal dispute.

The police had brought the victim to the kachehri for a hearing and were taking him back to prison when the incident took place.

The police have arrested the shooter, identified as Salman, and seized a 9mm pistol from his possession.

Inspector General Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan has taken notice of the shooting. The CPO security has been ordered to investigate the incident and submit a report.

Police officials said that strict action will be taken against the negligence of the police personnel present at the time of the shooting.
