Irish President’s dog tells American President Joe Biden to back off

U.S. President Joe Biden has been welcomed by many to Ireland this week, but the same could not be said for the Irish president’s dog who did not succumb to the American leader’s charm on Thursday.

Biden is in the middle of a three-day tour where the proud Irish-American is celebrating his heritage and holding meetings with Irish leaders.

Irish President Michael Higgins was walking Biden around the gardens of Aras an Uachtarain when one of Higgins’ beloved Bernese mountain dogs began barking at the U.S. visitor.

Unable to lure the Irish president’s canine companion over Biden walked away, but the dog later returned, to the delight of Higgins.

The Irish leader is often accompanied on official visits by his Bernese mountain dogs, Misneach and Brod.

The U.S. President is also a dog lover and his German Shepherd, Commander, lives with him and his wife Jill at the White House.

Biden will be guest of honor at a banquet at St Patrick’s Hall in Dublin Castle on Thursday evening, an honor previously given to Queen Elizabeth II and U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
