Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hit out against the chief justice’s remarks in the assembly on Monday, saying that it was a matter of honour not shame that he had survived jail to come back to the parliament.

He also said that he had not been accused of criminal charges and had been honourably acquitted by the courts.

The CJP had remarked during the election delay case that many people were making speeches who had been in jail not too long ago.

He also said questioned what kind of message the CJP had sent by adding a judge to the election delay bench after he had been accused of illegal activities.

He also said that ‘double standards’ being enforced by courts should end and Imran Khan should receive the same treatment that the PML-N did.

Shehbaz also reiterated that a decision from a full-court bench would have a better chance of being accepted by the people.

“Things will get better”

Addressing a meeting of his parliamentary party earlier in the day, PM Shehbaz said that the government’s hands were tied by the IMF and only the last condition is yet to be fulfilled. He also said that support from brotherly countries would get Pakistan over the line.

“The situation is difficult but our intentions are clear,” Shehbaz said.

He also put the blame of Pakistan’s current economic problems on former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He also accused Imran Khan of ‘badmouthing’ friendly countries and putting projects with China in danger.

The prime minister also said that the party had sacrificed its popularity and its political capital to save the country. He also praised the party members’ loyalty and steadfastness during this time.

“If Pakistan is saved, we will all be fine,” Shehbaz said. He also told his party members that they would have to work together to fight fascism.
