The PTI has decided to contact other political parties and assigned Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Pervez Elahi the job for the task as the ongoing crisis deepens in the country.

“We are in favour of talks with political parties,” PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said at a press conference in Lahore on Friday. “There is a need to give space to each other.”

The former ruling party has formed a two-member committee to start talks with the Jamaat-e-Islami and parties which are coalition partners of the government. Qureshi and Pervez would begin talks tomorrow (Saturday).

The move from PTI comes a day after the chief justice of Pakistan, who is hearing the former ruling party’s petition against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to postpone elections to the Punjab Assembly till October 8, called for talks between the government and the petitioner over the election delay.

Fawad was of the view that parties should think beyond “political victimisation”. He stressed the need for giving space to each other amid the ongoing crisis.

“We need to move forward,” he said. But Fawad dispelled any impression that his party would give a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to rival political parties.

The Imran Khan-led party has built a narrative to make rival political parties accountable for the apparent corruption they made over the years. A claim the ruling coalition denies.

“We can talk about the election framework,” the PTI leader said.

He slammed Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb for her statement that “she would not accept the decision” of the Supreme Court.

A Supreme Court bench, which reduced to three from five, rejected on Friday Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Awan’s request for the formation of a full court to hear PTI’s petition.

The request had come after parliament passed a new law to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court’s chief justice. The new draft law, which has been sent to the president for assent, has cut down the chief justice’s powers to constitute panels, hear appeals or assign cases to judges in his team, according to a copy of the bill.

These tasks will now be done by a three-member committee headed by the chief justice with his two most senior judges as members.

“How dare you [Marriyum Aurangzeb] said that,” Fawad reacted to her SC statement. “Under the Constitution, every executive authority is bound to implement the decisions of the SC,” the PTI leader said.

The former ruling party has decided to file a contempt of court petition against the information minister this week. “Political dwarfs are challenging courts and the system.”
