Health ministry raises alarm over medicine shortage

The ministry of national health services has written has called for immediate measures after noting a shortage of medicine in markets.

In a letter written to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan that a number of medicine, including life-saving ones, are short in the market causing problems for the public.

It has asked for immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of drugs. A total of 131 medicine have been found to be in short supply.

Most of these drugs are produced by multi-national firms who have stopped production over a price dispute.

DRAP has already recommended a price increase for many of tthe drugs mentioned in the list. However, final approval for the increase in prices has still not been granted.

A summary for the increase in prices of 119 medicine has already been forwarded to the cabinet on February 7.
