The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Wednesday restrained the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from holding by-elections on NA-265.

The court also suspended the election on a reserved seat for women in National Assembly.

The by-polls were challenged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers Qasim Suri and Munawara Bibi Baloch.

They filed a constitutional petition in the court through Advocate Syed Iqbal Shah and Shams Rind. The petition was heard by Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Amir Rana.

National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf accepted the resignation of the PTI lawmaker. He was among the PTI MNAs who resigned en masse after a successful no-confidence motion against then Prime Minister Imran Khan last year in April.
