Police raids Quetta residence of Khetran as protests continue

Police have raided the residence of Balochistan Food Minister Abdur Rehman Khetran in Quetta, a day after the dead bodies of a mother and her two sons were found in a well Haji Kot village of Barkhan district, the hometown of the minister.

The victims were allegedly held at the private jail of Khetran before being killed. At least five other members of the same family are said to be still at the private jail.

There were multiple protests in Balochistan on Tuesday with the largest at the Edihi Chowk in Quetta. Protesters traveled to the provincial capital from Kohlu and Barkhan with the bodies, demanding action against Khetran.

They staged a sit-in just outside the Red Zoen and the protest still continued Tuesday night with protesters refusing to bury the dead.

Protests were held in other cities as well, including one in the coastal city of Hub, near Karachi.

Rehman Khetran is from Barkhan district where he has allegedly set up a private jail, but he is currently living in the Patel Bagh area of Quetta.

Police raided his residence Tuesday evening and searched the guest house as well as the inner rooms of the house.

Roads leading to Patel Bagh were sealed.

The Balochistan government has also formed a joint investigation team to probe the deaths.

The home minister has insturcted the authorities to ensure safe recovery of the five children still being held at the private jail.
