A mother of four in Quetta has emerged as an independent candidate running for the NA-265 constituency of the National Assembly.

By-election for NA-265 and 32 other NA constituencies will be held on March 16. The seats were vacated after National Assembly Speaker Pervez Ashraf accepted resignations from the PTI MPs.

Homemaker and a mother of four, Nazia lives in Quetta’s Faisal town area.

Few women contest election on general seats in the country. This is the reason that the national legislature has seats reserved for women to increase their representation.

The reserved seats are given to candidates on the recommendation of party in proportion to its general seats. The more general seats a party wins, the more women it can nominate.

However, Nazia has chosen to fight to the National Assembly. She is determined to make Balochistan’s capital an ideal city. Nazia said that she will start by working on promoting woman’s education and fixing the broken roads.

“Politicians only have slogans and false promises.Quetta has become a hotbed of problems due to lack of practical work,” she said.

Nazia says that Quetta’s miserable conditions forced her into politics and made her want to change the condition of her city. “Our city was in shambles after the recent floods, but no one came out to help us,” she said.
