Former dictator Pervez Musharraf’s body was repatriated to Pakistan from Dubai in a ‘special plane’ on Monday night. He will get a military funeral.

Aaj News reported Monday evening, that the body of the former president was moved from Sonapur medical facility in Dubai to the airport.

The UAE government has provided a special plane to fly the body to Pakistan, reported Hafiz Zahid Ali.

Musharraf’s widow Sehba Pervez Musharraf, his son Bilal and daughter Ayla will accompany the body.

The plane will land in Karachi by 10pm on Monday.

The funeral is expected on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Earlier, reports said the family of the former chief of army staff (COAS) and the president had requested the state to provide a special plane to move the body from Dubai. The request was granted by the government of Pakistan.

Musharraf, who ruled Pakistan for most of the 2000s before stepping down in early 2008, died on Sunday at 79.

His son and daughter arrived in Dubai soon after his death. wife Sehba Musharraf was already in Dubai.

A military funeral for a former COAS is not unusual, but many social media users have demanded that the former dictator’s coffin should not be draped in the Green Flag since he had abrogated the constitution twice first in 1999 and then in 2007.

Musharraf was sentenced to life by Peshawar High Court in a treason case.
