Boat filled with children capsizes in Kohat, 11 dead

KOHAT: A boat carrying young students capsized in Tanda Dam, with atleast 11 confirmed dead.

The boat was carrying around 30 students, all boys, from Madrassa Mirbash Khel which is around 4km away from the dam.

A rescue operation is underway and 17 students have reportedly been saved from drowning. However, 11 students were confirmed to have died. Reports said that the drowned children were between seven and 14.

Reports also said that one group of students had safely crossed the lake, while the second faced an accident.

Initial reports have said that the boat was filled beyond capacity, which caused the accident.

Caretaker CM Azam Khan expressed grief over the incident. He instructed that the rescue operation be swift and effective and asked the commissioner of the area to personally supervise the operation.
