Security forces bust suicide bomber network in Waziristan
Security forces busted a network of suicide bombers in multiple intelligence-based operations in North Waziristan and Jamrud, averting the risk of a major attack. A major TTP organiser has also been killed
The operations began after a suicide attacker targeted a police check post in Takhta Baig in Jamrud on January 19. The attacker injured three security officials with gunfire before blowing up his suicide vest.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. A forensic analysis of the site and geofencing led the security to believe that the attacker was TTP member named Umar.
The first IBO conducted on January 23 resulted in the death of Satana Jan, the Jamrud resident who had aided Umar. The TTP also confirmed Jan’s death. Two people related to the attacker, Farman Ullah and Abdul Qayyum were taken into custody.
Another operation was conducted on January 27 after receiving reports that some suspects were active in the area. Four more abettors Fazal Ameen, Fazal Ahmed, Muhammad Amir and Hammad Ullah were rounded up, who subsequently revealed more information about the Jamrud bomber.
It was revealed that the attacker was of Afghan origin and was brought to Pakistan and armed by Satana Jan. Fazal Ahmed had photographed the area of the attack one day before the attack.
It has now been revealed that Satana Jan was incharge of running TTP operations in North Waziristan through four separate residences that were used to plan attacks and arm suicide bombers.
