Cricket great Wasim Akram has come out in support ounder-firere Babar Azam saying the think-tank should give him at least two to three years as captain.

The all-format skipper was under hot water after Pakistan suffered a 2-1 defeat against New Zealand at home earlier in January.

“Babar Azam’s captaincy is under criticism these days,” Wasim told Cricket Pakistan. “In this difficult time, a strong hand of support should come on his shoulder.”

He requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and higher authorities to stop making fun of themselves. “We don’t need any enemy; we are self-sufficient,” he said. “Stop making fun of yourself.”

Why Babar Azam is best ODI batter

Moreover, he suggested that PCB should give Babar two to three years run as captain. “He will prove to be one of the best captains.”

Commenting on the foreign coaches, the former captain believes that it won’t be the right option.

“If you had asked me, I would have told you that foreign coaches will not come,” former pacer said.

“Everyone is afraid that the contract will also end if the board changes,” he said. “If you are not getting a foreign coach, get the services of a local coach.”
