New statements in court have revealed that Shahnawaz Amir himself led the police to Sarah Inam’s body after allegedly killing her by repeated blows to the head.

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday recorded the statements of two members of the police who reached the scene after the death was initially reported. The accused was also produced in court, although his lawyer failed to make an appearance. Sarah Inam’s father was also present in court.

Lady Constable Shakila Kausar told the court that she reached the crime scene at a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad at 10:40 pm while the accused was present. The constable said that not only did Shahnawaz admit to his crime infront of her, but also said that he had placed the dead body in a bathtub. He then led the police to the body himself.

He also handed over the murder weapon, a dumbbell, to the police which had been hidden under a sofa. The constable told the court that the dumbbell had Sarah Inam’s blood on it as well.

Meanwhile, a forensics team reached the crime scene and the victim’s body was taken to Polyclinic hospital in Islamabad, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. The court also recorded a statement by Muhammad Rameez who was in-charge of the crime scene.

Sarah Inam, 37, was found dead in a farmhouse in Chak Shahzad in Islamabad on September 23 last year. She had reached Pakistan the day before her murder.

Subsequent investigation revealed that she had had an argument with Shahnawaz, on the phone the day before over some money, after which Shahnawaz had divorced her on the phone.

After reaching Pakistan, the couple got into an argument. Shahnawaz allegedly injured her by hitting her with a showpiece, then killed her by repeatedly hitting her in the head with a dumbbell.

Shahnawaz is son of well-known journalist Ayaz Amir, who was reportedly the one to call police after the alleged murder. Although the journalist has not been included in the case, Shahnawaz’s mother spent some time in police custody before being granted bail.
