NAB quizzes Zulfi Bukhari for three hours in Al-Qadir University land case
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Zulfiqar Bukhari said on Monday that he was questioned for three hours by the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Rawalpindi in the case of illegal use of powers related to the land of Al-Qadir University.
Speaking to the media after the questioning, Bukhari termed the NAB notices as deliberate acts of revenge. He said that NAB had given a list of questions and that he would respond to it after discussing it with his legal team.
During his media talk, Bukhari said that the NAB had issue with the land donated to Al-Qadir University Project Trust. He said that the land for the university was provided by the people of ‘Bahria’.
In the past, PTI rivals, including PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah have claimed that Malik Riaz donated the land as part of a ‘secret’ agreement between the Imran Khan-led government and Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz. As part of it, the £180 million that Riaz had to pay to the national exchequer was adjusted against his dues of Rs460 billion that the Supreme Court had ordered him to pay for Bahria Town Karachi.
Sanaullah had claimed that as part of this concession, Bahria Town donated 458 kanals of land to Al-Qadir Trust. He claimed that the land donated to Al Qadir Trust was worth Rs530 million at the time.
In his media talk, Zulfi Bukhari said that Imran Khan was not interested in the land or proceeds of the trust. “Malik Riaz made the donation just like businessmen tend to,” he added.
Audio Leaks
Regarding the audio leaks, Zulfi Bukhari said that he would be taking up the matter in court. “Politics has become so dirty that respectable relationships are being ridiculed,” he said.
He said that the his leaked converastion with Bushra Bibi was being given a different colour. “They focus on the leaked audios that they want to but not the others if it doesn’t suit their agenda,” he continued. He added that the audio tapes had been doctored.
Bukhari also rejected claims that he was involved in selling watches that Imran Khan had received in his capacity as head of government. “I have nothing to do with the matter of watches. I didn’t sell anything.”
Several videos of PTI leaders have been leaked on social media, including at least two conversations puportedly between Zulfi Bukhari and Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi.
In one of these audios, the woman can be heard discussing watches received as gifts by Imran Khan, while asking the person on the other line, believed to be Zulfi Bukhari, to take them so that they could be sold.
In October last year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan, declaring him ineligible from holding public office under Article 63(i)(p) for selling gifts he received in his capacity as head of government from dignatries of other countries.
