Former anchorperson Reham Khan has denounced the release of private audios and videos of politicians in what appears a surprise move from her since only a few years ago she penned a book on the personal life of her former husband Imran Khan.

“Blackmailing in any format is simply wrong,” she said. “The timing of such a release is even more concerning because this was all known when said person was given position. So why now?”

Audio chats apparently of a public figure were uploaded on social media last week, sparking fresh debate on the timing and privacy of the people. In the past, many politicians from both sides of the aisle in Parliament have expressed concerns over the alleged tapping of their phones.

When the PTI was in power, audio recordings apparently related to the PML-N leaders were leaked on social media and the people accused the the-then government of doing this. But the situation changed the other way round when the coalition government started ruling as a series of alleged audio clips of former prime minister Imran with his cabinet members surfaced on social media.

Reham, the former wife of Imran, suggested that people should be held accountable for what they do in the office.

“There was plenty wrong with the PTI governance/foreign policy to bash them there. Whether it’s a young female performer who has fallen out of favour or female politicians who are not active anymore this voyeurism is unhelpful.”

Reham married a US-based Pakistani model, comedian Mirza Bilal last week. This is the British national’s third marriage.
