Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that suspects involved in suicide bombing at I-10/4 sector of Islamabad had been arrested.

“Four to five people have been rounded up in this regard,” the interior minister said and added that the taxi driver who died in the attack was innocent, and was not involved in the attack as the suspects had taken the cab on rent from him.

Rana Sanaullah said that these people left Kurram Agency and stayed in Rawalpindi.

Following the blast, DIG Islamabad Sohail Chatta had also confirmed that there was a bomber in the vehicle along with a taxi driver, whose taxi was rented by the attacker.

The vehicle itself is a yellow taxi of 1989 model, and was registered in Lahore with number LEI 7793. It was last registered to a resident of Chakwal named Sajid in 2017.

“The police spotted a suspicious vehicle with a man and a woman aboard at 10:15am in the area,” Chattha had told reporters at the crime scene.

He said that when the police stopped the vehicle, the couple came out of the car. “The long haired man, while being checked by the officers of Eagle Squad of police, went inside the vehicle on some pretext and then detonated himself.”

Reports said that 18 kilogramme of explosive materials was used in the attack.

Following an increase in the terror attacks in the country, the Islamabad has been on high alert and security arrangements have been tightened.

The Islamabad police issued a ‘special’ plan, setting up at least 25 temporary check posts.

The police said in a tweet earlier this morning that Red zone entrances will be monitored by surveillance cameras and all passengers traveling on Islamabad’s metro bus will be monitored through video recordings.
