Pervaiz Elahi gives ‘carte blanche’ to Imran Khan on Punjab

Punjab chief minister say PTI chief has reduce the politics of coalition parties to zero

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said on Thursday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has reduced the politics of 13 parties of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to zero, adding that the PTI and its allies would give a full response to every tactic of the opposition in the provincial assembly.

The Punjab CM made these remarks after a meeting with the PTI chief at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. During the meeting, the current political situation and the PTI’s strategy regarding the dissolution of assemblies came under discussion.

Elahi said that he would back Imran Khan’s decision regarding the en masse resignation.

Elahi said that the PDM was a group of incompetents and that they should just please their hearts by talking about bringing a no-confidence motion against him.

“The opposition does not have the courage to table the no-confidence motion, nor do they have full numbers. We will give a strong response to every tactic of the opposition. We stand by Imran Khan.”

The meeting came after the PTI chief during his party’s public gathering in Rawalpindi had announced the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies where his party is in power.

Later PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, during a press conference, said that the party leaders endorsed the PTI chief’s decision to dissolve the assemblies. He said that Imran Khan would hold meetings the Punjab and KP chief ministers to discuss the plan to dissolve the assemblies.

Earlier on Sunday, Elahi warned the coalition government that in case PTI and its allies exit the country’s assemblies, then the incumbent government, “which expands over a mere 27kms, won’t last for the next 27 hours”.

He said that after Imran Khan’s recent announcement at the Rawalpindi public gathering, the PTI chief’s strategy had entered a decisive round.

The opposition parties in the Punjab assembly had earlier decided to move with the no-confidence motion and the vote of confidence, to avoid dissolution of the legislature.

PML-N and allies will likely to use two options in hand to thwart a bid to dissolve the provincial legislature. Governor Baligh ur Rehman will ask Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, to get fresh vote of confidence from the house, while with a break of one to two hours, the opposition parties’ MPAs will file a no-confidence motion against the chief minister.

CM Elahi in his today’s meeting with Imran Khan also discussed the strategy to counter opposition parties’ move in case the governor Punjab asked the Elahi for a vote of confidence.
