Pakistan seeks information from Dubai police in Arshad Sharif murder case

FIA, IB write to consul general of Pakistan in Dubai

Pakistani investigators have sought information from Dubai police regarding the visa and travel details related to slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif for the period that he stayed there after his departure from Pakistan and before his murder in Kenya.

The Federal Investiation Agency (FIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), who sent a two-men team to Kenya to investigate the killing, wrote the letter addressed to the consul general of Pakistan in Dubai.

Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya on October 24, with initial reports suggesting that he was shot dead by Kenyan police in a case of mistaken identity.

He had spent time in Dubai prior to his departure for Kenya, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf repeatedly claiming that Sharif was forced to leave Dubai at the behest of Pakistan. The Foreign Office has denied the accussation.

In its letter, the investigators have sought information regarding:

  • the visa and travel-related documents issued to Sharif
  • Address of place where he stayed during his time in Dubai from October 10 to October 20, along with CCTV footage of the same
  • Details of Sharif’s movements in Dubai and the meetings he held and details with whom the meetings took place
  • Clarification on claims that Sharif’s visa was cancelled, along with reason why it was cancelled
  • Call Detail Record (CDR) of Sharif’s number
  • Data of Pakistani passport holders who visited Dubai during Oct 10 to Oct 20
  • CDR of phone numbers of ARY News CEO Salman Iqbal and ARY group’s head of operations Tariq Wasi
