Funeral prayers offered for Mufti Rafi Usmani, hundreds attend
Funeral prayers for Mufti Rafi Usmani were offered in Karachi on Sunday. He passed away at the age of 86 on Friday after a long illness.
The prayer was led my Mufti Taqi Usmani, the deceased’s younger brother. Sindh governor Kamran Tessor, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, and Jamaat-e-Islami president Naeem ur Rehman. He will be laid to rest at Jamia Darululoom’s graveyard.
A large number of citizens attended the funeral amid heavy security provided py police and rangers personnel.
Mufti Rafi Usmani was the head of the Jamia Darululoom in karchi’s Korangi area and was also the patron-in-chief of Wifaq ul Madaris. He was born in 1936 and was the son of Mufti Shafi Usmani, a major figure of Pakistan’s independence movement.
Politicians, government officials and religious figures all expressed grief over Usmani’s death.
“He illuminated the whole world with the light of his knowledge,” wrote PM Shehbaz Sharif in his condolence tweet.
Maulan Tariq Jamil also expressed his grief, callin Usmani an, “asset of not just Pakistan but the whole Islamic world.”
PTI Chairman Imran Khan condled with Mufti Rafi Usmani’s family and said that his sevices will always be remembered.
