Following the post-mortem of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, who was killed in Kenya, and leak of his pictures the medical teams and the officials involved in the post-mortem recorded their statement regarding the issue.

Sources privy to the matter said that the meeting chaired by the chairman of the investigation committee, Dr. Naveed Sheikh, revealed that the leaked photos were not taken with a mobile phone but with a DSLR camera.

No one was allowed to carry a mobile phone in the room at the time of the post-mortem, the sources said, adding that the mobile phones of the doctors and staff were collected before the post-mortem.

According to committee sources, the photographer who took pictures of Sharif’s dead body also recorded his statement.

Sources said that the cameraman informed the committee that he returned the camera to the board chief after taking the pictures, adding that among the leaked images two of the images were those which were apparently taken with the camera in the hospital.

In his statement, the cameraman further told the inquiry committee that he had no knowledge about the leaked images.

According to sources, the committee members have made the statements part of the record.

Photos leak issue

Senior anchorperson of a private TV channel aired Arshad Sharif’s post-mortem report and pictures of the alleged torture on his body, in which visible marks and missing nails could be seen.

Following Sharif’s heirs’ reaction, Shahid removed the photos and videos of the program from Twitter.

‘The hand without nails was Arshad’s hand’

Speaking to a private TV channel on November 10, Sharif’s widow Jawaria Siddique said that neither were Sharif’s heirs taken into confidence before broadcasting the pictures nor were the pictures blurred.

“Before the post-mortem, I saw my husband’s dead body and saw his face, neck and chest. I did not see his hands and other parts of his body because it was a big shock for me as a wife,” she said, adding that she was shocked by the publication of the pictures.

“I recognized these pictures because there was a mole on Arshad’s finger. The fingers from which the nails have been removed are of Arshad’s hand.”
