Wazirabad incident: JIT reconstituted at request of Punjab IG
LAHORE: The Punjab government has reconstituted the joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe the apparent assassination bid on PTI chief Imran Khan in Wazirabad, just a day after its constitution.
The JIT will be convened by Dera Ghazi Khan Regional Police Officer Syed Khurram Ali, said a copy of the order issued by the Home Department on Friday.
The Punjab government, being ruled by PTI’s ally PML-Q, decided to form a JIT to investigate the shooting of Imran on Thursday. It was not clarified whether the government would talk to protestors or if the matter would be raised within the party to reopen motorways that have been blocked for the last three days.
Imran Khan was injured after the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ came under fire in Wazirabad. One person was killed while multiple PTI leaders were also injured.
The new JIT has four members: CPO Lahore (Establishment-II) Tariq Rustam Chohan; AIG/monitoring investigation branch, Ihsanullah Chohan; Vehari District Police Officer Muhammad Zatar Buzdar, and CTD Lahore SP Naseebullah Khan.
The team was formed by the Punjab Home Department at the request of Punjab police chief Faisal Shahkar.
Imran Khan’s security has been tightened in the wake of the attack on his life, according to PTI leaders. He is expected to join the Azadi March, which resumed on Thursday, in Rawalpindi on November 20.
