Mother kills two children, tries to take her own life in Punjab village
HAFIZABAD: Police have taken into custody a woman who killed her two children before attempting to take her own life in the Madhrianwala area of Punjab’s Hafizabad district.
The incident took place at the woman’s parental home in Hafizabad, where she had moved with her two children after a falling out with her husband and in-laws from the Nowshera village in the neighbouring district of Gujranwala.
Police said that the woman first slit the wrists of her two boys, one three years old and the other nine months, before using the same knife to slit her own wrist.
Upon hearing the commotion, family members rushed to the scene where they found the woman and the bloodied bodies of the two children .
A team from the Saddar police station in Hafizabad was dispatched to the scene. The children’s bodies were taken into custody along with the mother, who was later shifted to the hospital.
According to the first information report (FIR), filed on the complaint of the accused’s husband Muhammad Shabbir, the woman had been living at her parental home for almost a year.
It says that several relatives had tried to mediate but she was unwilling to return.
The woman’s father Akbar Ali told Aaj News that they were in communication with the woman’s in-laws and had sought eight days time to convince the woman to return to her husband’s house. “It was during this time that this tragedy occured.”
Police sources added that the injured woman and her family were being interrogated in connection with the case.
The FIR includes sections 302 (murder) and 305 (attempted suicide).
