The PTI has rejected reports pertaining to the party chief’s apparent decision to call off protests on Wednesday (today) in view of the difficulties faced by the public in twin cities due to the roadblock.

“The party has not issued such instructions. The protest will continue in Rawalpindi and Islamabad,” Musarrat Cheema, the Punjab government spokesperson, said in a statement.

Earlier sources in PTI told reporters that former prime minister Imran Khan has decided to call off the protests in view of the public interest. They had claimed that Imran would also release an “audio statement” related to the decision.

Cheema clarified that protests were being called off in other districts to ensure participation in the long march. “Haqeeqi Azadi March is going to start with full force which will be taken to Islamabad,” she said.

Media reported that people in twin cities were facing difficulties because of the traffic disruption caused during the protests being staged by the PTI protesters.

Citizens were forced to find alternate routes to enter Islamabad after finding access to Islamabad severely limited on Tuesday morning. In Rawalpindi, schools have been closed for two days.

Moreover, lawyers protested outside the Punjab inspector general office against the non-registration of FIR on Tuesday.

The interior ministry has ordered the chief secretaries of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain the law and order situation in the provinces.

“The maintenance of law and order is the responsibility of provinces. Therefore, the protestors should be immediately removed from all the closed roads,” it said in a letter.
