President approves appointment of 11 more judges of Lahore High Court
President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the permanent appointment of 11 additional judges of the Lahore High Court, with the notification regarding teh same issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
They are:
- Justice Shakeel Ahmed
- Justice Safdar Saleem Shahid
- Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad
- Justice Tariq Nadeem
- Justice Amjad Rafiq
- Justice Abid Hussain
- Justice Anwar Hussain
- Justice Ali Zia Bajwa
- Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed
- Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi
- Justice Raheel Kamran
A day earlier, the Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment ratified the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) for the confirmation of the 11 additional judges.
The JCP is a constitutional forum which recommends names of jurists to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court. The commission comprises nine members, i.e. the chief justice of Pakistan, the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, the federal law minister, the attorney general of Pakistan, a retired judge of the Supreme Court and a nominee of the Pakistan Bar Council.
On October 12, the judicial commission recommended the confirmation of 11 of the 13 additional judges of the LHC.
