‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ crosses Rs1 billion in box-office receipts

Bilal Lashari's remake of 1979 classic continues to rack up records

**The Legend of Maula Jatt has earned raved reviews since its release while matching the performance on the box office, with the distributors saying that is has raked in more than Rs1 billion in receipts since its premiere on October 12.

The Legend Of Maula Jatt was released worldwide in 500+ theaters across 25 countries which make the movie the biggest and widest-ever showcased Pakistani film yet, a press release stated.

The movie, a remake of the 1979 classic Maula Jatt, is also among the most expensive movies produced in Pakistan. It has a stellar cast featuring some of Pakistan biggest stars including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, and Faris Shafi.

Writer-director Bilal Lashari celebrated the achievement on his Instagram, with the caption “You did it”.

Actress Humaima Malick, who plays Daaro Nattni, was equally overwhelmed. “I can’t tell how emotional I feel while I’m typing this as words can’t describe how proud and happy I feel for our country.”

In Canada, The Legend Of Maula Jatt grossed $324,000 CAD ranking number six at the Canadian Box Office. Total collections for North America exceed USD $600,000.

In UAE too, the film grossed USD $515,000+ in four days and reached the top slot at the UAE Box Office, indicating the enormous support audiences have shown for the film. Other performing countries are Australia (AU$255,000), Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and South East Asia.

The phenomenal response to the film has led to full house screenings across the world and queues outside cinemas, with exhibitors continuously scheduling additional screenings to meet consumers’ demands.
