Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a reference against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in the Supreme Judicial Council.

The reference stated that PTI’s 123 members of the National Assembly resigned and their resignations were sent to the election commission, but the Chief Election Commissioner did not accept the en mass resignation of the PTI members. “The Chief Election Commissioner did not abide by the oath, his attitude is biased,” the reference added.

The reference pleaded with the SJC to order the removal of the CEC on account of “continuous and deliberate misconduct”.

“The conduct of the Respondent Chief Election Commissioner in accepting the resignations in a piecemeal manner is clearly indicative of [the] fact that he is favouring a political party and clearly has an ill will against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf,” the reference stated.

Imran Khan and other PTI leaders have repeatedly alleged that the chief election commissioner is biased and favors the ruling coalition, a claim which has been repeatedly denied by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
