Govt committed to resolving bottlenecks to growth: Dar

ISLAMABAD: The government was committed to setting the economy on a “sustainable and inclusive” growth path by taking steps to resolve bottlenecks to growth, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said on Saturday.

He said this during a meeting with World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine and his team at the Finance Division here, said a press release.

The minister also shared economic challenges that the country was facing, saying that the incumbent government was “cognizant” of such issues and taking steps to resolve hurdles to achieve sustainable economic growth.

He also informed the World Bank country director about the devastations caused by the recent floods in the country.

The World Bank country director extended felicitations to the finance minister on assuming charge of the office and briefed him on existing programmes and future cooperation of one of the global lenders.

He said that the bank was allocating $2 billion worth of funds from its existing financed projects for emergency operations in flood affected areas to support Pakistan. Around $1.5 billion worth of funds would be mobilised this year due to an emergency situation, he added.

Dar appreciated the World Bank for being a “source of support” in pursuing reform agenda and implementing various development projects for the country.

“Pakistan values the financial and technical support provided by the World Bank for the institutional reforms and economic development of the country,” he said.

The minister assured Najy Benhassine and his team of meeting prior actions for the timely completion of programmes and thanked them for their continuous support and facilitation.
