Govt forms high-level committee to investigate PM House audio leaks

DG ISI and DG IB are also included in the committee

The government Tuesday announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the cyber security breach at the Prime Minister’s House.

The 12-member committee, comprising federal ministers Sherry Rehman, Azam Nazir Tarar, Asad Mahmood, and Aminul Haq, will be headed by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, said a notification issued in this regard.

The notification said that the Director Generals (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) are also included in the committee.

The committee will investigate the audio leak issue and will complete the investigation within 7 days.

Cabinet Division’s secretary, DG ISI or his representative, DG IB, National Telecommunication and Information Security Board’s secretary, and technical experts from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Federal Investigation Agency, and ISI will also be included in the committee.

The committee will review the existing security protocols at the Prime Minister’s House and ensure a robust security and digital ecosystem at the Prime Minister’s House, said the notification.

The committee will review the electronic security system at the Prime Minister’s House, it added.

Following the back-to-back leaks, the National Security Council (NSC) approved the formation of a high-level committee under the leadership of Sanauallah to investigate the matter of the audio leaks.
