Bilawal says demand for fresh election amounts to playing with lives
WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that any demand for holding fresh elections at the moment amounts to playing with the lives of flood survivors.
The foreign minister held a press conference in Washington DC at the end of his visit that saw him meeting with US Secretary of States Antony Blinken and other officials. He answered questions from Pakistani journalists.
Bilawal urged the international community to work with the Taliban regime of Afghanistan not against them.
In response to a question, Bilawal said that if there was a 0.1% chance of holding fresh elections in Pakistan before the floods, it had dropped to zero. “Now there is flood. Entire country is drowning. Anyone who is pushing politics at this moment or demanding elections, they are playing with the lives of flood victims,” he said.
Bilawal said that Imran Khan hurt Pakistan’s foreign policy and the economy but the country had been put on the right path now. In the past six months, Pakistan’s relations with other countries have improved, he said.
Bilawal said that his US visit was a success and Pakistan has urged the world lenders to transform its debt into aid.
