Islamabad Police has asked for 30,000 security forces personnel from the provinces to deal with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s expected long march or sit-in.

Sources said that the capital city police has asked for 20,000 personnel from Punjab, 4,000 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 6,000 from Rangers.

Islamabad Police will place containers and will also dig trenches at the entrances, the sources added.

They said that the police have also made arrangements to throw tear gas shells through drones at the protesters during the expected long march.

The sources revealed that 3,000 FC personnel have reached Islamabad, while Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not taken any decision regarding the deployment.

Earlier this month, while addressing a public gathering in Punjab’s Bahawalpur the former premier and PTI chairperson Imran Khan had hinted at another long march to Islamabad if the coalition government continued to use negative tactics against his political party.

A day earlier, during his address in Chakwal, the PTI chief urged his supporters in Punjab’s north to heed his call for public protest. “On my call, you all have to come out to liberate the country,” he said.

He equated the struggle with holy war or jihad, something that he has repeatedly done in the past. “We do not bow down to any American or thieves. Break the shackles of fear,” he said.
