ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah clarified on Monday that the IHC suspended the notification of the Election Commission of Pakistan for PTI MNA Abdul Shakoor Shad only.

“The petitioner was Abdul Shakoor Shad, and therefore, the notification is suspended for one member of the National Assembly only,” Justice Minallah said while presiding over the hearing of Shad’s plea against the notification accepting his resignation.

The ECP had declared PTI’s NA-246 seat from Karachi’s Lyari vacant after National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted resignations of 11 PTI MNAs.

A single notification was issued to de-notify all eleven MNAs: Ali Muhammad Khan, Fazl Muhammad Khan, Shaukat Ali, Fakhar Zaman Khan, Ejaz Ahmed Shah, Jameel Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Akram Cheema, Abdul Shakoor Shad, Farrukh Habib, Sheerin Mazari and Shandana Gulzar.

Last week, the court suspended the notification accepting Shad’s resignation after the PTI MNA filed a plea in the court seeking the suspension of the notification.

The petitioner contended in his plea that neither did he send his resignation to the Speaker nor did he write his name and date on it. The resignations of 123 PTI MNAs were written by a computer operator at the party head office. However, the members signed the document to maintain party discipline.
