QUETTA: At least four children have died following gastroenteritis outbreak in Balochistan’s Panjgur district after the recent devastating spell of rains and floods in the province.

“Over a hundred children affected by gastro are being brought to the hospital every day,” Dr Ayub, the in-charge of the children’s ward at the Teaching Hospital Panjgur, Murad told Aaj News.

The situation has been made worse due to unavailability of medicines in the hospitals and shortage of Ringer’s drip in the market.

Dr Ayub said that there were no anti-biotic medicines in the hospital and the patients had to purchase the medicines from the market.

“Due to the increasing number of patients in teaching hospital, Ringer’s drips have also run out,” Medical Superintendent (MS) Teaching Hospital Panjgur Dr. Anwar Aziz said. He said that the officials concerned have been informed about the shortage.

Aziz said that the hospital teams were doing their best with the resources available to them.

Earlier this week, two children died due to another outbreak in the Pishin area of Balochistan.

Cholera has also claimed dozens of lives across Balochistan, particularly in Pir Koh, due to the non-availability of clean drinking water in the rural areas of the province.
