A suspect in the Lahore brothers’ death case told police on Saturday that she does not remember anything after she closed her eyes when the two victims appeared in front of her car.

Noorul Hassan, 20, and Mahmoodul Hassan, 18, were wounded when a speedy car hit them in the Southern Chhaoni area on October 21. They succumbed to their injuries two days later while receiving treatment.

Both brothers, residents of Sheikhupura, had come to Punjab’s capital to submit documents for army recruitment.

A woman who drove the car rashly hit both brothers and fled the scene. Aisha is suspected to be driving the car. A case was registered by the police on the complaint of their father.

Following the accident, Aisha had obtained interim bail from a local court until November 7 and was allegedly not cooperating with the investigation. The investigating officer had summoned her to record her statement, but she had not provided any information at that time.

She recorded her statement with the police on Saturday. According to Aisha, she was on her way to the university when two individuals suddenly appeared in front of her car, causing her to “panic and close her eyes.”

The suspect claimed that she does not remember what happened next. Aisha stated that “overwhelmed by fear, she drove away from the scene.”

Police have requested the suspect to provide her driving licence as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal accident.

Reckless driving in Lahore’s affluent neighbourhoods, particularly in the Cantonment and Defence Housing Authority, has garnered significant attention recently. Incidents of careless driving by children from elite families often went unreported, as such individuals maintained influence within police circles.

In November of last year, a tragic accident claimed the lives of six family members, caused by a teenager’s reckless driving in DHA. The young driver was traveling at 110 km/h when he lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with another car.

This incident prompted higher authorities to take notice and initiate actions against underage drivers throughout Punjab, aiming to address the growing concern over road safety in these upscale areas.

“I will not forgive the killing of my children. I need nothing less than justice,” the mother of the deceased brothers told Aaj News on Friday.
