Rains have claimed 131 lives in Sindh since June 20

At least 48 people killed in rain-related incidents in Karachi

KARACHI: The spell of monsoon has so far claimed at least 131 people lives since the first spell on June 20, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Thursday.

Out of these deaths, 54 were men, 65 were children and 11 were women. The breakdown of PDMA data shows that 422 people were also injured in rain-related incidents. 221 of those were men, 109 women, and 92 were children.

Of those killed, 48 people lost their lives in Karachi. Twelve victims were from district South, 10 from district Malir, seven from Korangi, and six from the district East. Five deaths each were reported from districts Central and West while three casualties were from Kemari. Another 272 people were injured in Karachi during the rains. The injured people include 151 men, 77 women, and 44 women.

In Sindh, Khairpur with 28 reported the most rain-related casualties.
