The Provincial Desaster Management Authority (PDMA) said Wednesday that another 15 people have lost their lives due to floods and rains in Balochistan during the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths in the province to 164.

The deaths occurred in Bolan, Quetta, Zhob, Dikki, Khuzdar Kohlu, Kech, Mastung, Harnai, Qila Saifullah and Sibi due to several rain-related incidents.

74 people, including 47 men, 11 women and 16 children, have been injured in accidents during the rains.

Hundreds of kilometers of roads and dozens of bridges were also flooded, including six national highways covering 670 kilometers were severely affected due to the rains, while 16 bridges were washed away by water at different places.

The recent rains have badly affected Kohlu district and hundreds of acres of standing crops have been washed away in flood channels, while 23,013 cattle have been swept away by floodwaters.

2630 solar panels and 109 local boreholes have been badly affected in Kohlu and 1390 families across the district have been affected by recent rains.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast another spell from August 6, which is likely to cause flash floods in Zhob, Harnai, Sibi, Nasirabad, Jhal Magsi, Panjgur, Awaran and Lasbela.

PM orders round the clock monitoring of rescue, relief measures

Earlier today Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered round the clock monitoring of rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas.

He gave these directives during a briefing by the officials concerned in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The premier ordered an update regarding the relief and disbursement of funds to the flood victims through the submission of a report every 48 hours.

He instructed the concerned authorities to speed up distribution of relief funds in Balochistan, especially in areas of Bolan, Quetta, Zhob, Dakki, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Kech, Mastung, Harnai, Qilla Saifullah, and Sibi.

The prime minister directed to speed up relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-affected areas of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

He said that negligence in the supply of food, medicines, and accommodation would not be tolerated.

PM Shehbaz stressed ensuring proper cleaning, sanitation, and fumigation of the flood-hit areas to avert the spread of diseases including dengue.

He directed the provision of clean drinking water to flood victims to control gastric diseases.

A report by the authorities concerned informed the premier that the arrangement of food, medical camps, and shelter has been made in the flood-hit areas of Balochistan.

The report said that relief activities have been increased in collaboration with the provincial government of Balochistan, while work was in progress in other provinces with the cooperation of the respective provincial governments.
