Two-year-old dies after falling into uncovered manhole

Punjab chief minister orders disciplinary action against those responsible for negligence

LAHORE: A two-year-old girl lost her life after falling into an uncovered manhole in Lahore. A rescue team managed to retrieve the body.

The incident took place in Naz Town area of ​​Lahore, where the girl suddenly fell into the uncovered manhole. Manholes are often left uncovered in Pakistan, particuarly during times of heavy rain to expedite water drainage from roads. Sometimes, such uncovered openings are not visible on flooded roads resulting in avoidable accidents.

Rescuers retrieved the body after one hour arriving at the scene.

Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz sought a report from the Lahore Division commissioner and ordered an investigation. He also ordered disciplinary action against those responsible for negligence.
